My adult life has been defined by two goals. The first goal was to find a profession that I would love each and every day. As a chiropractor, I truly have reached that goal. Every day I make positive changes in patients’ lives. My favorite part of this “job” is exceeding expectations. Patients are continually amazed at the rapid and sometimes immediate pain relief achieved through my care. I love hearing the words, “I wish I would have come to see you long ago!” and “I had no idea you could help with that.” Of course “Thank you!” never gets old, no matter how many times I hear it in a day. Reading the testimonials written by patients makes me excited for every new day and every new patient at Compass Chiropractic!

When I made the decision to become a chiropractor I set a second goal to become the doctor that I would personally want to see and send my family to. Reaching that goal started with choosing the best college. Iowans are lucky in that respect as Palmer College of Chiropractic, where chiropractic was founded, is located in Davenport. Since chiropractic’s founding, Palmer College has been considered the top chiropractic college in the world, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a top notch education and a truly rewarding career in a health profession.

I personally want to see a doctor who is a great communicator. After nervously botching a best man speech in front of a large wedding reception audience, I realized that communication was a skill I needed to improve. I joined an organization called Toastmasters in 2004 and started giving health-related talks for audiences whenever possible. Those steps have been instrumental in allowing me to clearly communicate the path to restored health and lifetime wellness to so many patients. On a regular basis I hear, “it finally makes sense!” and “why didn’t anyone else explain this to me?” Toastmasters also trains its members to be great listeners, and it’s not uncommon that patients seem to appreciate having their concerns actively heard more than any other part of my care.

No matter how great a school is, it can only teach a student so much. The rest has to come with practice. After graduating from Palmer College, I was given the opportunity to practice with Dr. Jeff Rindal in Mount Vernon, Washington. I chose to work with Dr. Rindal because I knew he was a man of unquestionable character and ethics. What I didn’t know was just how far his reputation reached, with multiple “Best Chiropractor in the Community” recognitions and patients traveling over the North Cascade Mountains, off the San Juan Islands, across the Canadian border, and from hours away to be treated by him. In the nearly two years I worked with Dr. Jeff Rindal, I learned and practiced the techniques that made him such an excellent health care provider with great success. I also learned the values that made patients appreciate their visits to our clinic so much. These include honesty always, constant positivity, respect for patients’ time, and love of your community among others.
